MANIFESTO
“Tell your own story, and you will be interesting.
Don’t get the green disease of envy.
Don’t be fooled by success and money.
Don’t let anything come between you and your work.”
- Loise Bourgeois

This artist manifesto developed out of my own creative experiences, conversations with art educators and visual artists as well as academic inquiries into art education for self-actualization, andragogy, unschooling and process art.
“I paint what occurs to me and that is all.”
- Remedios Varo
I accept that I may not always fit into a particular model of artistic learning.
I put less emphasis on specific skills, and more on interest based inquiries.
I allow more time and freedom to learn and work, rather than following a strict artistic step process.
I challenge and question the status quo in art.
I believe that there is not just one set of rules of making art.
I believe there is no “right” or “proper” way of becoming or being an artist.
I reserve the right to not conform or comply.
I reserve the right to be artistically unpredictable.
I customize my art experience to enable freedom of expression and self-discovery.
I believe in taking only the knowledge, skills, or advice that aligns with my artistic intentions.
I believe that creativity = self-actualization.
I honor and trust my unique artistic rhythm.
I learn what, when, where, and how I want for my own reasons and until I am no longer interested.
I believe in art education for self-actualization.
I believe that by becoming more fully human I become more fully artist.
