STATEMENT

Through my work, I challenge both myself and viewers to hold dear our creativity, silliness and curiosity.  And to do our darndest to encourage the basic creative impulse, innate to all human beings, and our ability to imagine, to create, to heal and to self-actualize.

Since young, I have lived in an imaginative world of unusual creatures. I saw them everywhere and they have became the centerpiece of my creative process.

To introduce the unusual denizens of my imagination to the realm of our contemporary life I use acrylic on canvas or wood, utilizing a simple palette, explicit linework and most often a choice of a solid color background.

My visions are born of memories, experiences, and inspirations. Together, they guide my hands across the medium providing a playfield for all creatures who might want to come through. This creative process is intuitive and intimate, as each work guides and speaks to me as it is birthed.

This emergent process invokes a place of not only relaxation but also laughter as the essence of each character comes to life. It is an improvisation grounded in the great mystery.

The creatures within my portfolio come through from this and other worlds and most have been with me since childhood. Even though it seemed at times that they had left me, I gradually realized they never went away but were patiently waiting for me to summon the courage to acknowledge them as a permanent fixture in my life and provide them the platform to express themselves.

Every child is an artist. All grown-ups could be if only we were not afraid.
